First a note from Ron Jr, and Heart of the Word:
This left hand page was a note in the weekly bulletin from my dad to the church he pastored, and it was written back in 1992. Which as an aside, is about the same time he founded this ministry!
At first glance it may not seem relevant to today, beyond maybe to a few of you who were in the congregation at that time - Why, Ron Jr, are you sharing a message from your dad to the church back then - that was 30 years ago!?!
Here are 3 reasons why. First of all, what he said then is applicable to us in our churches now - I believe it illustrates how we can pray for and support our pastors, and their ministries. Second, he received many, many questions everywhere he spoke with regard to "how he grew his church", and this illustrates his answer every time - namely, "I didn't do anything - God did!"
And finally, we believe that this is how we, the current custodians of this ministry, feel about you, the "Compassion Ministries" congregation. We feel your love and support and prayers, and everything my dad says about his church is what we would say about this ministry, and all of you.
And we, in turn, pray for you continually as well.

"HIS GLORY AMONG US
I am often asked for the reasons for the glory and blessing that rests upon this congregation. The question usually seems to have a built-in agenda, and that is: 'What did you [Pastor Ron] do to make this happen?' Frankly, I'm always hard pressed to come up with answers, because we don't do anything. He does! The point is, its Him, the Lord God of glory who dwells among us. The Lord has come to rule and reign among us in a definite way. My unceasing prayer is that Isaiah 9:7 would continually be fulfilled: 'Of the increase of His government... there shall be no end.' I think the precept is simple. If we will continue to walk in worship and the Word, with a burden and heart for the world, God will continue working in His glory. 'For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him' (II Chronicles 16:9).
There are two things that are certain: (1) That God gives His glory to those who will move in childlike faith and Spirit-filled praise. I rejoice every time I even think of the many precious saints that God has placed in this congregation. There are so many who are both faithful and faith-filled. And (2), that God will move in mightry ways through a people who will allow his government to rule. Although the sheer numerics of what God has done may impress some, far more impressive is the intangible presence - that glorious working of our Lord that continues to let us tough our world (Acts 2:47).
We personally stand absolutely overwhelmed because of the constant flow of love and care by the believers that God has places in this fellowshop. There is no way to say thanks enough for...
... Your faithful and supportive prayer, the impact of which literally sustains and keeps us through every situation
... Your incredible sensitivity to always speak words of encouragement when only God could know the timing was right
... Your willingness to stay committed to Jesus. Somehow God has shown you He desires more than your ability. He wants your availability.
Lord, I pray that Your government and rule over us will always be as it has been, and that Your glory will continue to be an unedning blessing to our congregation.
Thanksful for His glory,
Ron Mehl
