"The Law of Heaven
They call it 'the law of the jungle,' 'survival of the fittest.' It's a fatalistic way to evaluate man's approach to life: 'We are alone, challenged on every hand by adversity, chance, and coincidence, so we better toughen up and fight back.' The draining pressure and strain that such philosophy produces affects every area of our life, from our health to our relationships, and, of course, the most desired commodity: true peace. Ford has a better idea, and so does our Lord. His idea originates the word called 'trust,' has to do with an attitude that says, 'There's nothing He doesn't know, nothing He doesn't see, and nothing He cannot do.' A person who comes to Jesus doesn't live by chance anymore. God didn't design every difficulty, but He did foresee it (Exodus 13:17), and He has designed an escape route, a point of release. Trust generates a confidence every time I commit myself to His way. It's a confidence that can't be matched by trusting in a system that shouts, 'The toughest always wins.'
You can fight when you should be at peace, or kick and holler when you should be content. If you believe that everything must be perfect today in order to face tomorrow, you're probably trusting you, not Him. You're probably relying on others rather than God.
That's where trusting, delighting, commiting, and resting in the Lord come in (Psalm 37: 3-7). They let us lean totally on Him who is in the Beginning and the End. I'm not suggesting we should float off and sit on a cloud, strumming our harps and singing hallelujah, and let God work out every detail of life. I am suggesting we look at things as God does: let Him show you when you're to speak and when you're to keep silent, when to fight and when to be at peace., when to work and when to rest. By the way, He says to trust all the time.
Here's what I suggest you ask: Can I really trust the Lord? 'I am the Lord; I change not,' Malachi 3:6. 'He that comes to God must believe that He is and that He is the rewarder of those that diligently seek Him,' Hebrews 11:6. Will trust always work? When things look good, I have no problem following, but when things might not turn out right, something in me begins to work, strive, and manipulate. Trust says, 'I believe in You, Lord, even when it looks like You've forsaken me.'
By the way there's one law higher than that of the jungle. It's the law of heaven. And God always wins.
